EVANDER – Municipal workers were horrified at the discovery of a fetus on Wednesday, 22 January.
According to the police the fetus was found in a clothing shopping bag in a park near the Gert Sibande College.
Police suspect that the abandoned fetus was the result of an abortion and was that of a student from a nearby college.
Const Sibusiso Mbuli, communications officer for the police, said: “These advertisements that advertise a safe, quick and painless abortion are very dangerous.
“Young women need to be careful because these illegal abortion practices can be life threatening.”
Women can die as a result of complications of an unsafe abortion.
Those who survive can sustain long term damage and infections such as an incomplete abortion, haemorrhage, internal organ injuries of the uterus as well as womb damage.
The Ridge Times spoke with te chief communications officer of the Gert Sibande Fet College, Ms Jabu Mhlabane, who said: “We have had no reports of any of our students who have shown any abnormal behaviour.
“We will cooperate with the police if anything gets brought to our attention.”
According to Ms Mhlabane the college has no control over what happens outside the school grounds.
