eMZINONI – Andile Mahlangu and Thabo Banda, former pupils from the Ikhethelo Secondary School and the A D Nkosi Secondary School, received full bursaries for tertiary education.
Both achieved five distinctions out of their seven subjects in the 2013 matric exams.
Dr Sibusiso Zondo, president of the Sesifikile Youth Structure, recognised the students’ achievements and approached Total Coal South Africa for financial assistance.
Andile is currently studying medicine at the University of Pretoria and Thabo is studying chemical engineering at the University of Witwatersrand.
Both students stays at their respective institutions where the company have ensured their tuition, books, accommodation and meals are paid.
“The company believes education is the key to empowering communities, hence we did not hesitate to offer support to these two achievers,” said Ms Juanita Meijsen, company communications officer.
Dr Zondo said his organisation encourages pupils to take their education seriously.
“Thank you to the management of the company for taking an interest in changing the lives of pupils through the initiative of giving out bursaries to deserving pupils.”
