SECUNDA – The Dalton family’s dogs, Klokkies and Lelo, had to be euthanised after they had been poisoned on Wednesday morning, 12 February.
Both dogs had been throwing up, foaming from the mouth, discharging blood from their rear ends and showed signs of disorientation.
Klokkies, poodle-cross, was the worst of the two dogs.
The family is not sure who was responsible, but they thought it could have been a burglary attempt.
Ms Ilda Dalton said: “We are very upset, especially my dad, because Klokkies was like his baby.
“We are very close to our animals and cannot understand how someone can be so cruel.”
Both dogs were taken to a veterinarian and spent two nights for treatment and observation.
They had to be put down because their conditions did not improve.
A local veterinarian t said: “Usually the animals will get kidney damage due to poisoning.
“If your pet has been poisoned, it will need treatment as soon as possible.”
According to him, poison used is Aldicarb, an insecticide for crops.
Lt Bettina Zondo, communications officer for the police, said: “The police are aware of the situation and are monitoring the area.
“If your pets have been poisoned, you must notify the police, do not leave it.
“Burglars poison animals so that they can gain access to properties.”
