Police arrest three for possession of dagga
Police arrested a woman (61) and two men, aged 48 and 29, for being in possession of dagga on Wednesday, 12 February.
LEBOHANG – A woman (61) and two men, aged 48 and 29, were arrested for being in possession of dagga on Wednesday, 12 February.
This was after the police had a school-based crime prevention campaign at the Chief Ampie Masiya Secondary School.
The police caught some pupils who were in possession of dagga and who led the police to the suspect.
When the police were driving to the house of the suspect, they saw a man coming out of the house.
He ran and the police chased him and found dagga on him.
He was arrested immediately.
The search continued to the suspect’s neighbours where the police found dagga in a plastic bag and the woman, the owner of the house, was arrested.
W/O Khuliselwa Matrouse, spokesman for Leandra Police Station, said: “The school-based crime prevention campaign was a success, because we managed to arrest those who had broken the law.
“We want to bring safety to schools and raise awareness among pupils through campaigns about the dangers of substance abuse so that learning and teaching are more effective.
“Drug use in local schools is a challenge and results in theft of teachers’ property and affects the effectiveness of teachers and a pupils’ relations.”
The suspects appeared in the Leandra Magistrate’s Court on 14 February.
