Moyo sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment

Killer of Ms Mamsie Mahlangu sentenced to 10 years in prison.

EVANDER – Bongani Moyo (22) was sentenced in the Evander Regional Court to 10 years’ imprisonment on Wednesday, 19 February for killing Ms Mamsie Mahlangu (41).

Ms Mahlangu was found dead after she was stabbed in her home in Lebohang in August.

Moyo pleaded guilty to the charges and said in a statement that he could not control his disappointment after finding his girlfriend in bed with another man.

Magistrate Thabiso Mashigo emphasised on the seriousness of the case.

He said there is no charge that can bring Ms Mahlangu back or bring comfort her family.

He also said no one can condone what Moyo did, because finding his girlfriend cheating on him was not a license to kill.

Mr Sipho Mahlangu, family member, said they are not happy with the outcome of the sentence.

He said Moyo lied and said he had a key for the house, but he broke into the house.

“We were hoping that witnesses would be called, but after he pleaded guilty witnesses were sent home.

“We are going to have a meeting as a family to decide whether we are going to appeal or not.“
