Police arrest one of their own

Policemen must behave themselves says provincial commissioner.

SECUNDA – A 27-year-old constable from Secunda Police Station was arrested recently on various charges.

His arrest followed after the police had investigated a case of house breaking and interviewed a 22-year-old man who admitted to have been involved in another burglary in January.

He told the police that a television he had stolen that night was taken by the constable who instructed him to wash a state vehicle and said he would then release him.

When the police investigated the case, the constable had already sold the television.

According to Brig Selvy Mohlala from the Mpumalanga Provincial office, the constable was nabbed on the spot and charged with allegations of corruption, defeating the ends of justice and possession of suspected stolen property.

Both suspects appeared in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on 21 February.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lt-Gen Thulani Ntobela, recently expressed his concern about members who are behaving in a manner that is reputed by the law.

He ordered that all police members behave themselves, if not, their colleagues will not hesitate to handcuff them.
