Three kill off duty policeman

KINROSS – Const Phumlani Nxumalo (43), a policeman from Secunda Police Station, was killed on Tuesday, 18 February in Afghanistan.

According to Capt Phil Maplala, station commander of Kinross Police Station, Const Nxumalo was sitting in his car next to the road with a woman when three armed men approached the vehicle, forced the women out of the vehicle and allegedly shot Const Nxumalo.

“He managed to get out of the car and ran a few metres before he collapsed and died,” said Capt Maplala.

Const Nxumalo was shot in the stomach.

The suspects escaped with his car that was later found near Duvha Power Station.

The policeman was off duty when the incident happened.

The Organised Crime Unit is investigating the case.
