BETHAL – A prostitute and her client sustained injuries after they were apparently beaten by the police on Thursday, 8 April.
The police followed the woman (32) and her client to his house in Clerq Street.
According to her, three policemen and one policewoman were involved.
They took her and the client into a bush where they allegedly beaten them and took the woman’s cell phone, R700 and her handbag.
“The client tried to run away, but the police caught him and I do not know where he is,” she said.
The police took her to the Bethal Police Station where they allegedly continued to beat her.
“They took me too a veld near eMzinoni where they left me.
“I tried to call my friends after midnight, but they did not answer so I crawled back to my house.”
According to the doctor, the woman sustained leg, stomach, back and elbow injuries.
She opened a case at the Bethal Police Station, but the police refused to give her the case number.
“This is not the first time that a prostitute got beaten by the local police,” her friends said.
The police did not give comment to the allegation at the time of going to press.
