EVANDER – An illegal gold digger, Mr Nelson Sithole (50), was shot and killed at abound 5pm on Tuesday, 29 April near the old Bracken Mine.
According to witnesses, six men, including Mr Sithole, were approached by two men who wore Lesotho blankets.
They demanded the men hand over gold and gold digging equipment.
A witnesses said a shot was fired and five of the six men ran away.
Mr Sithole sustained a gun shot wound to the head.
The communications person for the police, Sgt Sibusiso Mbuli, confirmed a case of murder was opened, but could not give any other details as the case is under investigation.
He appealed to the public who may have information or anyone else who witnessed the incident, to come forward.
