People abandon puppies

Do not dump puppies.

My wife and I walked through the veld in Sunset Park on the night of 2 June when we heard puppies crying.

Both of us stopped and searched where it was coming from.

We then saw a cardboard box closed top and bottom.

We opened it and found seven little brown puppies.

We took them home, gave them food and water and then placed an add on Facebook and it spread like wild fire.

All the puppies had new homes by 11am the next day.

I want to plead to the public not to just dump puppies or kittens.

You can at least place an add on social networks and find suitable homes for them.

If you know of people doing this, please report them.

I mean by the time we found the puppies, they already began to chew the box to get out.

They were left without food or water – a certain death in these cold nights.

We would like to thank everyone who helped us to get these puppies new homes.

(Ms Jenneth Geel, senior inspector at the Highveld Ridge SPCA, said: “How awful can people be.

“Thank you to the Visagie family for caring and going out of their way to look after the puppies.

“My plea would be for the owners of dogs and cats to have them sterilised then this type of cruelty could not happen.

“If anyone recognises the puppies and knows who dumped them and left them for dead, they can contact the SPCA who will happily investigate a case of negligence and cruelty.

“Prevent cruelty and have your pets sterilised remains our slogan.”
