Bus set alight

Road users and residents were shocked when they saw a bus went up in flames in Ext 4 eMbalenhle.

eMBALENHLE – A bus was set alight in Extension 4 on Wednesday, 9 July.

Mr Henry Masango, head of marketing and communication for the Govan Mbeki Municipality, said: “An off-duty firefighter saw a bus was on fire and immediately alerted the on-duty firefighters.

“Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered that the fire had engulfed the entire bus and there was little to be salvaged.

“Preliminary investigations established that the fire originated at the rear side of the bus and spread over the entire bus.

“The cause of the fire remained undetermined and there were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.”

Mr Sakkie Schoonbee, Megabus area manager, said this was related to the Numsa march.

“We condemn such behaviour.

“If people are on strike, they should not vandalise and intimidate others.”
