Girl raped by 62-year-old man.
A 62-year-old man arrested for raping 13-year-old girl.
EVANDER – A 62-year-old man appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 7 July for allegedly raping a13-year-old girl on several occasions in April.
The girl was selling vegetables in eMbalenhle and apparently went to the suspect’s house.
He told the girl that he was going to fetch money to buy some, but he allegedly locked the door and raped her. He then ordered her not to tell anyone or he would kill her.
In other two incidents, the man met the victim on the road and allegedly dragged her to his house where he again raped her.
The victim’s mother noticed a strange discharge while she was applying an ointment for treating mosquito bites.
She took her to the local clinic for medical examination and the rape was confirmed.
A docket was opened that led to the suspect being arrested on Saturday, 5 July at about 8.30pm.
The suspect remains in custody and the case was postponed to 16 July pending bail application.
