Artists seek help
Indingo Committed Theatre Network will tour to six schools to educate and inform pupils about nyaope through Watch out Nyaope Kills.
eMBALENHLE – Indingo Committed Theatre Network aims at reaching the youth and reviving arts and theatre in the Govan Mbeki Municipality.
It consists of a group of unemployed youth who came together and created an educational theatre drama to perform at schools and community centres in the fight against crime and HIV and Aids.
Mr Absalon Nkabinde said it is time that we restore the dignity and the values of arts in our municipal area.
“Theatre is not fully recognised in the area, but we will try our best to get the respect we deserve.
“Amazing talents end up in streets and taverns.
“It is unfortunate that private companies do community development projects, but it ends up into the wrong hands where greedy people just think of themselves.
“We ask the private companies to scout and research properly before they fund projects.
“We appeal to the local department of arts to review its way of doing things and to begin to change the face of theatre in our area.
“We need theatre projects that will promote social welfare and promote local artists.
“They must also give artists freedom of expression.
“Let us all remember that the arts belong to artists.
“Without them there is no art, so they must be given a chance to take over their industry, fair and free.
“Local arts need young blood to take over and new projects must be invented.”
The Indingo Committed Theatre Network will be touring to six schools from July to August to perform their play.
“We hope it will have a positive impact on our local schools.
“We ask our local business people and companies to sponsor us so that our dream can come true.
“Their support will help to raise children who are sober minded, crime free and free from substance abuse.”
