Five men behind bars for robbery

LEANDRA – The local police have arrested five men on Tuesday, 5 August in connection with robbery.

W/O Khuselwa Matrose, spokesmen for the Leandra Police, said the robbery took place in Volkrust and the stolen items were to be sold in Leandra.

“We received information that robbers used a truck to rob soya at Sandspruit Milling. We followed the lead and found the suspects with the truck at Pride Milling in Leandra.

“We demanded a receipt for the soya from the driver, but he could not provide one.

“We then took him in for questioning and as investigators were busy interrogating him, we received another call that another truck which was offloading at Pride Milling, was found with stolen goods.

“Electrical appliances such microwaves, kettles, a printer and a computer were found in the truck.”

Two other vehicles were also on the scene with suspects who were suspected to be escorting the trucks, and they were also arrested.

“According to the truck owner, his trucks are transporting soya beans from Standerton to Pretoria.

“He was shocked to hear that the trucks were in Leandra and said he knew nothing about the loading and offloading at Pride Milling,” W/O Matrose said.
