Osizweni Combined School celebrates 20 years

eMBALENHLE – Osizweni Combined School celebrated its 20 year anniversary on Thursday, 2 October.
The school was established in 1994 at the Old Bracken Mine.
A section of the mine compound was renovated and turned into classrooms by Sasol.
An administration building was renovated, furnished and equipped with office equipment, a library,a language laboratory, a science laboratory and a technology laboratory was also set up.
The school began with four teachers and less than 200 pupils and was originally a primary school from Grade 1 to Grade 7.
The school grew rapidly and now boasts a combined school from Grade R to 9 with 2 108 pupils, 74 teachers, seven administration staff and 18 general assistants.
Mr Johannes Zondo, principal, thanked the teachers, pupils, parents, school governing body, Sasol and the Department of Education for contributing towards the progress of the school.
He said: “We are committed to creating a culture of teaching and learning where all teachers teach and all pupils learn in a supportive and learning enriched environment.
“We aim at being a learning institution of excellence and a model school that is people centred that continually moves in the right direction.
“We are also committed to achieve academic excellence by working in partnership with all our stakeholders.
“It is our dream to uplift our community by educating our children.”
Pupils performed various activities during the event, such as poetry, music and Zulu, Ndebele and Indian traditional dance.
