New station commander wants to reduce crime
Colonel Maria Sibanyoni is eMba's new station commander.
eMBALENHLE – Col Maria Sibanyoni, new station commander of the eMbalenhle Police Station, says her main function is to reduce crime in the area.
She said this is a high priority and she is determined to develop a healthy relationship with members of the police and the community.
“I have begun to look at the crime statistics to ascertain what the main problems and from there I will sit with the members to formulate strategies on how we can achieve a crime free eMbalenhle,” said Col Sibanyoni.
She does not foresee major challenges, because it is not the first time that she is stationed in the area.
“This is home to me and I know every corner.
“I served here for some time and learning from my colleagues will also help me.”
Her career began in 1988 when she was working at the Leandra Police Station.
She worked as a station commander at eMbalenhle Police Station, Kinross Police Station and Evander Police Station between 2005 and 2008.
She was then transferred to Bushbuck Ridge Police Station.
“The station I am coming from, is quite big and I believe the experience obtained there will help me a lot.
“I am asking residents to cooperate with us in fighting crime.
“Criminals are few and we must not allow the minority to out class us.”
The crime rate in the area is very high but the commander wishes to reduce it.
