UPDATE: Taxi driver in court for second time

Mr Tsepang Matloung, the taxi driver, who was charged with murder, fraud and reckless driving, appeared in the Standerton Magistrate's Court on 15 October.

Mr Tsepang Matloung, the taxi driver, who was charged with murder, fraud and reckless driving, appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 15 October.

He faces nine counts of murder after 12 occupants died as a result of the accident, 11 on the scene and one more in the Standerton Hospital three days later.

The accident occurred on the road between Standerton and Perdekop on 6 October.

The driver apparently skipped a stop and go construction site and collided with an oncoming truck.

He has applied for legal representation.

The investigating officer was not at the hearing and the magistrate turned the matter down.

The case was postponed to 23 October.
