Youth pamper the elderly

eMzinoni grannies have party on Saturday, 10 October.

eMZINONI – The Sesifikele Youth Structure held a grannies day on Saturday, 10 October during which they spoiled and pampered them with the aim of giving back to the community and of honouring the elderly.

Nosihle Nkosi, Sesifikile Youth Structure representative, said it was their way of thanking all grannies who raised and supported them.

“Most of us in this structure were raised by grannies and we are where we are because of their affection and support.

“Some do not enjoy their pension because the little they get is used to raise their grandchildren.”

Gogo Ntombintombi Motha thanked the youth for the initiative and for remembering the old.

“We thank God for the local young people who remember us every year.

“We wish them all the best, especially Mr Sibusiso Zondo and his family who give guidance to these young people.

“Most grannies have many difficulties because of disobedient grandchildren, but today we had fun and forgot about life’s struggles.”

Lungelo Mathibela, chairman of the iKhethelo Secondary School Rads, said: “Hearing about this event, we said to ourselves that we will also take part in and contribute towards whatever we have to do to honour the elderly.”
