Speed hump results in fight between residents and taxi drivers
Residents beaten after erecting hump in main road.
eMBALENHLE – Gate 3 residents blame the municipality for the ructions between them and local taxi drivers.
A fight broke out when residents gathered to erect a speed hump in the main road.
It was not painted and resulted in car accidents that involved two taxis.
The taxi drivers then mobilised themselves and searched for those who had erected the speed hump.
They apparently entered Ward 9 and beat some men.
A resident who wanted to remain anonymous, said the fight was bad and resulted in people losing their phones and were also beaten because they were recording the incident.
He said the municipality should be blamed for this because they have reported the need for a speed hump due to several accidents.
“We have lost lives because motorists, especially taxi drivers, drive reckless.
“We took the initiative of erecting the speed hump after we had reported the matter several times, but to no avail.”
Residents said they have reported the matter to the local taxi association and they were advised to submit registration numbers of the taxis that were involved.
