Lunatic asylum not to blame for joggers

The Standerton Marathon Club ran their annual fancy dress time trial on 30 December.

The Standerton Marathon Club ran their annual fancy-dress time trial on 30 December.

This annual event is done to motivate the athletes for the coming year.

“We have been doing this for the past 15 years,” Mr Peter Daniel, chairman of the club, said.

“Motorists watched in bewilderment, thinking what lunatic asylum had let their patients out.

“It is all good, clean fun and brings a smile to the face of everyone we pass.”

Mr Daniel also said it is a family-orientated event with children escorting the athletes on their bicycles.

“We all run the same distance at the pace of the slowest runners to finish at the same time,” Mr Daniel concluded.

Afterwards the club enjoys a braai and some well-deserved refreshments.

Time trials take place from the Show Grounds on Tuesday evenings at 6pm.
