Schools can enter Caer school drama competition

The Caer school drama competition will take place on 16 and 17 April.

SECUNDA- The Govan Mbeki Community Awareness and Emergency Response (Caer) held the school drama competition’s final briefing with various school principals and representatives on Wednesday, 28 January at the Secunda Sasol Recreational Club.

The competition, under the Learn not to Burn Foundation curriculum, aims at educating and highlighting the burning issues faced by pupils in the society by using entertainment in the Govan Mbeki Municipal area.

Ms Ntombifuthi Macheke from Caer said they have broadened the Learn not to Burn to Learn not to Burn from fire, shame, fear or pain which tackles many uncomfortable social ills in the society.

“We gave scripts to the participating schools on various topics such as substance abuse and bullying.

“There is also a dedicated team, including a creative director from Izigi Performing Arts, who will be going to schools and facilitate the programme.”

Schools who are currently participating, are Vukuzithathe Primary School, Isibani Sezwe Secondary School, eMbalenhle Primary School, Laerskool Hoëveld, Laerskool Kruinpark, Hoërskool Evander High School, Laerskool T.P Stratten Primary School, Lifalethu Primary School , Shapeve Primary School, Maphala Gulube Primary School, Kusasalethu Primary School, Buyani Primary School and Zamokuhle Primary School.

  • The entries close on Friday, 6 February and schools who are interested in entering can still do so.

The competition will take place on 16 and 17 April.
