Diesel tanker overturns

A diesel tanker overturned and landed on its side leaving the road drenched with diesel on 31 January.

A diesel tanker overturned and landed on its side leaving the road drenched with diesel at 8am on 31 January.

The accident happened about 20km outside Standerton on the Morgenzon Road where the Bethal Road joins the Morgenzon Road.

According to a traffic officer on the scene the driver approached the t-junction too fast and when he turned into the Morgenzon Road towards town the truck ended up on its side.

The truck driver was transported to the Standerton Hospital.

“The tanker was carrying about 33 000 litres of diesel and only lost a quarter of the tanks,” Mr Jabulani Mkwanazi, officer at the Standerton Fire Station, said.

“A company was sent by the owners of the tanker to clean up the spill.”

According to Mr Mkwanazi a towing service from Ermelo collected the truck and its tanks the same day.

One lane of the road was blocked for the clean-up operation for a few hours.
