Home Affairs helps pupils with IDs
Identity document applications through the Department of Home Affairs mobile service at schools go smoothly.
eMBALENHLE – Home Affairs embarked on a journey of making sure that high school pupils apply for identity documents.
“It is going smooth and we only have two schools left,” said Mr Bongani Mashabane, Home Affairs official.
The only challenge they sometimes come across, is that some pupils forget to bring their mother’s identity numbers with them.
Some pupils do not have birth certificates and cannot apply for identity documents.
The Department further said pupils must ensure that their birth certificates and identity documents are always kept safe to avoid them falling into the wrong hands.
Secunda Home Affairs currently has 1 342 identity documents awaiting collection.
People who applied for their identity documents, must collect them.
Identity documents which are not being collected, will be sent back to Pretoria after nine months of issue.
Mr Mashabela said when they finish with identity document applications, they will begin with another campaign for both primary and secondary schools birth certificate applications.
Late registration of births will be closing 31 December this year and all South African residents who do not have birth certificates, should make sure that they apply for them.
