Boy drowns during Kosmos 3-in-1 Marathon

Fun day ends in tragedy for parents.

SECUNDA – What was a fun day for some, was a tragic one for others.

A seven-year-old boy drowned in one of the swimming pools at the Umuzi Lodge this morning.

The Kosmos 3-in-1 Marathon was held this morning and the start and finish took place at Lake Umuzi and the area around the swimming pool was packed with people.

According to an eye witness, the boy was swimming in the pool outside and his parents were sitting in nearby.

He later went to swim in the inside swimming pool and his parents were not aware that he went inside.

Other children later saw his body at the bottom of the pool and alerted the adults who contacted the police.

The police and members of the dive unit responded to the call and recovered the body of the boy.

The police are investigating and the name of the boy has not yet been released.
