SECUNDA – Ms Lindi Masina, executive mayor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, said she is fed up with lazy officials.
She said the days of 10 workers patching a pothole for two weeks, excessive expenditure on non core activities, outsourcing of services that the municipality has the capacity to manage and the length of time it takes to look into service delivery complaints should be eradicated with immediate effect in the line of doing normal business.
“Our strategic approach is to reposition this municipality into its evolving environment so as to build on and retain our far outstanding character within the national context.
“We need to ensure all departments contribute optimally to the value chain through maximum processed outputs and improved operational efficiency to enhance performance.”
Ms Masina admitted that the municipality is facing various challenges, but was equally resilient and confident that these difficulties are not insurmountable and that the council will eventually emerge victorious.
“We are not in denial over the challenging period of our political term, but we are equally cautious not to create a fertile ground for alarmist utterances that may create a state of permanent paralysis in our systems and processes.
“We are still resolutely committed to our strategic objective of making this municipality a model city and centre of excellence, despite all the challenges that we have been grappling with.
“We are seeing notable strides in this regard.”
Ms Masina said she is committed to implementing the Back to Basics Document which she believes will address the concerns of the people with regard to service delivery imperatives.
