Govan Mbeki municipal workers keep in shape

Ms Lindi Masina, excutive mayor, encouraged employees to live a healthy lifestyle to be productive at work.

SECUNDA – Govan Mbeki Municipality hosted a wellness day for its employees at the Lilian Ngoyi Stadium on Friday, 17 April.

The purpose of the event was to raise awareness among employees of the benefits of physical and emotional wellness.

Ms Lindi Masina, executive mayor, said: “When employees are healthy, they increase productivity in the workplace.

“Your wealth is your health, so take care of your health.”

Employees took part in various sporting activities, including run and walk, track sprints, aerobics, tug of war, egg races, backward races, sack races, long jump and three legged races.

Other activities of the day included testing of blood pressure, BMI testing (body mass index), testing of glucose and sugar levels, cholesterol screening, ergonomic assessment/education, HIV/Aids Counselling and Testing, TB screening, cancer education, financial advice and debt counselling.

Mr Lucas Mahlangu, director of Corporate Services at the municipality, thanked the stakeholders, including the sponsors, medical aid, pension fund and other benefit funds and financial services.

“A big thank you to all participants, as well as councillors and municipal employees,” he said.
