Sasol boosts locals through projects
Sasol handed over three major projects to the Govan Mbeki Municipality on Wednesday, 22 April.
SECUNDA – Sasol handed over three successfully completed community projects to the Govan Mbeki and Pixley Ka Seme Municipalities on Wednesday, 22 April.
The projects which comprise the Junior Achievement South Africa (JASA) programme in Perdekop, the eMbalenhle Community Recreational Park and the eMbalenhle Business Hive, are part of Sasol’s public and private partnership that Sasol has with the two municipalities.
Mr Sipho Maseko, Sasol vice president of Supply Management, said Sasol recognises that unemployment and a shortage of skills are serious challenges facing the youth in our communities and our country.
He said these projects will directly benefit the communities by creating a conducive environment to empower the unemployed youth to begin small businesses and be more employable in the labour market.
“Sasol’s Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy is not only about complying with Government’s regulations, Sasol also supports these initiatives, because we are a responsible corporate and it is the right thing to do.
“I trust that you will vigilantly ensure that the park and the business hive becomes a safe place for both the old and the young men and women of this beautiful community to come and enjoy themselves.
“The business hive facility will empower the youth to enhance their businesses and to create employment opportunities for fellow young people, to empower them to make a meaningful contribution to the country’s economy,” said Mr Maseko.
Ms Ethel Nkosi, MMC for Technical Services, commended Sasol for the projects built for the community.
“We do not underestimate your contribution to our community.
“Thank you for coming on board to help us better the lives our people.”
She urged the residents to look after the property.
