Disgruntled Secunda employees insist on getting new management
In most cases the employees allegedly work a 24 hour shift and holidays without getting overtime.
SECUNDA – Employees of the Sasol Garage between Secunda and Trichardt refused to work on Thursday, 7 May because they apparently did not receive their full salaries.
They said it was not the first time that it happened and the problem has been addressed with management several times.
They get paid every two weeks and according to them it is unfair that there are unnecessarily cuts on their salaries.
Employees work according to a roster and must fill it in before and after their shifts.
In most cases the employees allegedly work a 24 hour shift and holidays without getting overtime.
They work eight days and, according to them, only receive three days’ pay and the employees said management does not have explanations for these problems.
The garage opened in 2012 and employees who worked there from the beginning currently wear uniforms.
New employees do not have uniforms and disciplinary action is taken if they do not follow the rules.
“We must look neat, but how can we do so if no provision is being made?
“Most employees must take care of their families, pay rent and transport and if they do not receive their full salaries, they cannot survive.”
Mr Jublani Makhathana, representative of UMSA, reached an agreement between the management and employees so that service delivery can continue.
The employees insist on a new management and better working conditions.
Mr Sebastian Naido, manager of Sasol Garage, said they will take care of the problem and is currently in negotiations.
“We want the money they owe us,” said employees.
