Little Paws Big Hearts helps rural community animals

Little Paws Big Hearts is a non profit organisation that strives to improve the lives of every dog and cat they get into contact with in rural areas.

SECUNDA – Little Paws Big Hearts is a non profit organisation that strives to improve the lives of every dog and cat they get into contact with in rural areas.

The main priorities driven by Little Paws Big Hearts (LPBH) are sterilizations, education and medical and food distribution. They are a Pro Life organisation and will fight for every dog and cat no matter what it takes.

They reach out to communities every second Saturday when all the members and volunteers get together at 9am at

the Holfontein Informal Settlement.

They begin by setting up camp and then immediately the community begins to bring their dogs and cats.

The animals first get a thorough check up to see if they have any cuts and lacerations (usually caused by hunting) and swollen areas.

They are then dewormed.

Those that need extra care, receive it unless it is a more serious case and they must be taken to a vet.

Fleas and ticks are a big problem and the animals are dipped.

Residents are given enough pet food for two weeks.

Members of the organisation also teaches residents how to care for their pets.

Little Paws Big Hearts hopes to expand to Afghanistan near Kinross.

During the week they take dogs and cats for

sterilisations.

The organisation is constantly busy with fundraising events.

For example they worked at Madison’s at Graceland on 22 and 23 May.

Also not to be missed is a very first for Secunda, the Secunda Uncorked Festival (a food and wine festival) that will be held at Graceland Arena on 28 and 29 August.

Little Paws Big Hearts want to begin a sanctuary and are in desperate need of vacant land to begin this.

They also need a vehicle to change it into an animal ambulance which will make transportation from the camps to the vet so much easier.
