A two-year old boy died in the Standerton Hospital after he sustained major injuries in a fire on 4 June.
The boy was sleeping with his great-grandmother in her RDP house in Rooikoppen when the incident occurred.
They allegedly fell asleep with the candle burning and it fell over and the blankets caught fire.
A neighbour saw the house was on fire on his way to the shop.
He jumped over the gate that was locked and woke up the elderly woman’s grandson, who was sleeping in a shack next to the RDP.
They tried to rescue both the woman and the boy before calling the ambulance.
