Police warn of hijacking hotspot
One of the victims is said to have been followed by a private car with blue lights.
KINROSS – The R29 four-way stop that is used by motorists from Kinross, Trichardt, Secunda and Delmas has been identified as a hot spot for car hijackings.
The stop is also being used by hitchhikers and prostitutes and the favourite among hijackers are Ford Ranger bakkies.
Sgt Matselane Nhlapo from Kinross Police Station said motorists should be careful of hitchhikers, because some are hiking with a motive of hijacking a car.
She further said motorists should also be aware of prostitutes, because motorists who stop to talk with the prostitutes often become victims of hijackings.
“Should motorists notice any suspicious car following them, they should not stop but report it to the police or drive to the nearest police station,” said Sgt Nhlapo.
One of the hijacked victims is said to have been followed by a car with blue lights and he thought it was a police car.
His car was hijacked when he stopped.
Motorists are advised to ignore private cars fitted with blue lights and they should continue driving until they reach the nearest police station.
