Murder increase in eMba

Local police have raised their concerns over the high increase of murders in the area.

A 56-year-old murder suspect appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 14 July for the murder of a taxi driver.

According to the police, Mr Phakamani Munyu (25) was shot once in the right arm and was taken to a clinic where he died.

The suspect was arrested the following day and it is alleged that he used his licensed firearm to commit the crime.

The firearm with 12 rounds was confiscated.

* In a separate incident, an unknown man was found dead next to the road at Gate 6.

He had a stab wound in the chest and no one has been arrested yet.

* While the police were patrolling on Sunday, 12 July, another body was found next to the eMbalenhle Sasol Club.

It was later identified as that of Mr Isaac Vubil’.

It is alleged that the murderers used Mr Vubil’s cell phone to call his mother.

Nobody has been areested yet.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said the police are deeply concerned about any act of violence in the area which results in murder.

He urged residents to always report conflicts to the police rather than taking the law into their own hands.

“We will do everything in our ability to arrest the suspects.

“We ask residents to work with us to create a safer environment in our area.”
