eMBALENHLE – Three siblings burned to death this morning in the Mandela Section.
It is alleged that the two boys and a girl between 8 and 15 years old were sleeping when their shack caught fire at about 3am.
According to police the children lived with their mother in one of four rented shacks behind an RDP house.
However their mother was out of town when the incident happened.
A tenant of one of the other shacks, a man in his mid 30s, narrowly escaped the fire.
The occupants of the other two shacks and the landlord were not home during the fire.
Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said the fire was extinguished before it could spread to the main house, but all four shacks burnt down.
“We are still investigating the cause of the fire and an inquest docket has been opened.”
