Roodebank pupils received new furniture
Vukta promised to build classrooms for the school.
eMBALENHLE – Roodebank Combined School pupils received new chairs and tables for all four classes from the Department of Education on Monday, 20 July.
Most of the pupils come from nearby farms and eMbalenhle and used to complain about back ache and their trousers tearing at the back because they had to sit on bricks at school (Ridge Times of 12 June).
The school was built in 1946 to help the children of farm workers get formal education.
The department also delivered Grade 8 and Grade 9 textbooks.
The school still has a shortage of classrooms and a staff room.
Vukanini Taxi Association visited the school on Monday to donate school shoes to the disadvantaged pupils in aid of 67 minutes on Mandela Day.
Mr Fanyana Sibanyoni, chairman of the taxi association, said they will return to the school to build classrooms.
Mica Hardware and other local organisations also want to join hands in building the classrooms.
