Suspect re-arrested
Suspect linked to various crimes rearrested after he escaped from the eMbalenhle Police Station.
A 20-year-old suspect was rearrested after he escaped from the eMbalenhle Police holding cells on 24 April.
The Lesotho national already appeared twice in the Evander Magistrate’s Court following the public violence case registered in Evander.
He escaped before his case was finalised.
Police received information about suspects who were in possession of a firearm.
The speedy response of the police resulted in two suspects cornered in the Mandela Section.
The suspects were searched and a firearm with four live rounds was confiscated and a 20-year-old suspect, also a Lesotho national, was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Upon investigation it was established that the firearm might be one of three firearms stolen during a farm attack in Greylingstat last November.
In this incident a victim who was working at the Balfour Magisterial District was murdered and three firearms were stolen.
Police realised the other person who was with the arrested suspect was the one who escaped from lawful custody.
The duo was arrested and will appear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
* In a separate incident another 20-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 July for possession of an unlicensed firearm and a toy gun.
The suspect was arrested following an argument he had on Saturday.
Information was received that the suspect was in possession of two firearms.
Police traced him to his work place and upon arrival at his home, found a firearm and a toy gun.
On further investigation it was established that the firearm was reported stolen in Sasolburg in 2009.
* In another incident, a 24-year-old man is expected to appear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court in connection with arson.
It is alleged that the suspect, a Lesotho national, burned down his ex girlfriend’s shack.
