eMBALENHLE – The police, the Secunda K9 Unit and women traffic officers conducted Operation Basadi on 13 August at the eMbalenhle four-way stop.
The road block which was led and done by women, formed part of the ongoing Women’s Month activities taking place in the Govan Mbeki Municipal area.
Women said they wanted to challenge and encourage other women who are still afraid of taking up careers in law enforcement.
Capt Magonseni Nkosi said during the operation more than 1 500 motorists were attended to, 261 vehicles were searched and 31 traffic fines were issued.
A thousand brochures about domestic violence were also handed out to motorists.
