Marnique on top of MTB log

Marnique de Swardt is the best.

SECUNDA – Marnique de Swardt, a Grade 10 pupil from Hoërskool Secunda, currently leads the youth women’s category of the Spur High Schools MTB League with a total of five wins and 75 points.

Uplands College teammates Kirsty Shuttleworth and Tamryn Hawley are in second and third place with 51 and 44 points respectively, followed by Monique Swart of Hoërskool Nelspruit in fourth place with 40 points.

The team from Hoërskool Lydenburg has completely dominated the league and is in a very comfortable lead with Uplands College in second place and Hoërskool Nelspruit third.

The league was launched in 2009 as a joint initiative between Amarider and Spur Steak Ranches with 900 riders participating in the initial 20 events, and is aiming for a record 10 000 entries this year.

MTB fans from across Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa and neighbours Zimbabwe and Namibia, will take to the track in nearly 60 races leading up to the finals at Bekker High School in October.

The action-packed finals will once again see schools as well as provinces competing for the coveted Spur Schools MTB League trophy and top spot on the provincial log.

Marnique was chosen to help other young riders and women to improve their skills in the recently launched Dusty Diva Skills and Training and also assisting in developing a women-specific MTB apparel range.
