Resident accuse police of brutality
Some police officers might face serious charges after an assualt case was opened against them.
eMBALENHLE – Mr Ntokozo Mthembu opened an assault case against some police officers of the Secunda Police Station.
He said he was driving to Secunda when he met three police officers next to the BMW garage.
He said seeing the police and knowing he was on the wrong side of the law, he threw beer bottles out of the windows.
The police saw what he was doing and stopped him.
According to him, one officer took a swipe at him when he got out of the car.
“I retaliated and things got out of hand.
“Four of my ribs were broken in the ensuing fight.”
When police realised he was injured, they allegedly put him in the back of the police van and took him to the Evander Hospital.
He was later transferred to Mediclinic Highveld.
He said police demanded his car keys and that resulted to his belongings being lost.
“I lost R1700, a cooler bag and other items.
“They also arrested my girlfriend for standing up for me.”
Mr Mthembu said he has lost faith in the police.
A case of assault against the police officers was opened and the girlfriend was released from the holding cells.
