Pupils accused of killing 19-year-old
Capt Mangonseni Nkosi of eMbalenhle Police Station urged parents to monitor and know the whereabouts of their children.
eMBALENHLE – Four pupils charged with murder appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 11 August.
They are between 17 and 19 years old and are accused of stabbing and killing a 19-year-old pupil.
The four are from various schools in eMbalenhle.
It is alleged that the victim was walking with three friends when the group of suspects attacked him.
The other three managed to escape unharmed, but the victim was assaulted and stabbed.
He was admitted to the Evander Hospital and died two days later.
Capt Mangonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said the motive for the attack is not yet known and it has also not been confirmed that the event was gang related.
The pupils will reappear in court on Friday, 18 September.
* In a separate incident, residents ran for their lives when a fight broke out among pupils in Extension 9 on Wednesday, 9 September.
The groups were throwing stones and bottles at one another.
Some brave members of the community managed to stop the fight.
Capt Nkosi said the fighting was over “petty school-related issues”.
He disputed allegations that the fighting groups were rival gangsters.
“We took about 15 of these pupils for cross examination and established that they were not part of any gangs.
“We urge parents to work with us to control the children in the area.”
