Woman found with unlawful firearm

Woman found with an unlawful firearm out on bail.

eMBALENHLE – A 55-year-old woman was found in possession of an unlawful firearm in Extension 17 recently.

This came after the police were alerted by residents.

In their first attempt, the police did not find the woman, however they went to her house for the second time and found her with the unlawful firearm.

Some residents alleged that the old woman was hiring out the firearm.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said the police could not yet confirm this, but are investigating.

He said the police managed to trace the legal owner of the firearm and he was charged with negligence.

The woman appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court and was released on a warning and will reappear on Wednesday, 28 October.
