SECUNDA – Mr Bheki Kubheka, senior manager office of the municipal manager and acting head of Communications and Marketing, said the Govan Mbeki Municipality wishes to inform residents of possible cuts in electricity and water.
“The municipality will be implementing water and electricity cut offs in all towns within its jurisdiction.
“This process is implemented to residents whose accounts are not paid and are owing services to the municipality.
“The above process is in line with the credit control and debt collection policy of the Govan Mbeki Municipality.”
Mr Bheki also said it is imperative that the municipality collects money owed to it for the rendering of services to local communities so that it can be able to pay its own creditors which include Rand Water and Eskom.
“The debt book of the municipality is exorbitant and this is affecting the municipal cash flow negatively, because services are rendered while they are not paid for and this will affect the municipality’s ability to provide these basic services.
“The task is upon the community to honour their dues to the municipality in the same approach they do with retail stores,” said Mr Bheki.
