SECUNDA – The Operation Vuka Sisebente (OVS) War Room was officially launched on Thursday, 12 November at the Govan Mbeki Municipal Council Chamber.
Speaking on behalf of the mayor, Mr Sakhile Mahlangu, MMC for Development and Planning, said the OVS War Room’s goal was to bring Government closer to the people.
He said the council seeks to improve coordination of service delivery between departments by launching the war room.
“The province adopted a war room approach that was originally pioneered in KwaZulu-Natal that is aimed at bringing together representatives from various government departments to improve service delivery in all municipal wards.
“We hope this initiative will bring a change in our area.”
Giving a message of support, Bishop Gordon Mthembu, chairman of the Mpumalanga Provincial Aids Council, said OVS War Room seeks to institute food securityand fight poverty and diseases, in particular HIV/Aids and TB, and crime and to empower women and youth.
“Let us support this initiative and trust that it would allow government services to help society’s most vulnerable.”
The House of Traditional Leaders and the House of Religious Leaders vowed to support the OVS, however they also voiced their discontent with matters concerning the municipality.
“We will fully support this though we are unhappy with some matters.
“There are things we have to iron out for the smooth running of this initiative.
“However we understand that this is not the right platform to discuss those things,” said Senior Past Moeletsi Seake.
Mr Cyril Gwiji, speaker of the municipality, told the The House of Traditional Leaders and the House of Religious Leaders that their concerns will be attended to and their grievances were noted by Council.
