Municipality warns of building transgressions

An amnesty period of six months will be granted.

HIGHVELD – It has come to the attention of Govan Mbeki Municipality that a number of households are transgressing the National Building Regulation by building permanent structures without submission of building plans for approval by the municipality as delegated by legislation.

The council meeting of 27 August resolved through resolution number A74/08/2015 that:

* an amnesty period of six months be granted to all residents within the jurisdiction of the Govan Mbeki Municipality who have erected permanent buildings without approved building plans, to submit building plans for approval.

* residents within the jurisdiction of the Govan Mbeki Municipality who have not submitted building plans within the amnesty period be prosecuted.

In light of these resolutions, the community is therefore informed that the amnesty period as resolved by the council will begin from 1 December and end on 31 May next year.

All transgressors are advised to come forward and comply with the regulation in order to avoid prosecution and hefty fines.
