Mpumalanga police’s cold case team arrests three for string of ATM bombings in Govan Mbeki Municipality
The trio are expected to appear at the Evander Magistrate’s Court on September 7.
Three people have been arrested in connection with ATM bombings in the Govan Mbeki municipal area and surrounding areas of Witbank.
The Mpumalanga SAPS Cold Case Investigation Team’s intensive investigation into a series of ATM bombings in the province has resulted in this breakthrough.
The team revisited and investigated the cases, resulting in the identification and arrest of three suspects aged between 20 and 38.
The trio are expected to appear at the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Monday (September 7), where they will face charges relating to ATM bombings in Leandra, eMbalenhle, Bethal, Witbank, Vosman and Phola.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant-General Apaphia Modise, has commended the Cold Case Investigation Team for its dedication and persistence in pursuing cases that had remained under investigation.
Modise said in a media statement that the breakthrough demonstrates the SAPS’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of serious and organised crimes are identified and brought to justice.
