Residents accuse eMba police of being useless
"I am very disappointed with the way that eMbalenhle Police Station officers are treating the community with regard to opening cases."
eMBALENHLE – Concerned residents have criticized eMbalenhle Police Station and the Community Police Forum (CPF) of being useless.
They said members are lazy and arrogant and are taking bribes from foreign nationals, including illegal miners and small business owners.
The residents alleged that when they call the station, officers take a long time to respond and when they go to the police station, they get poor service.
A resident said his cousin and his wife were victims of bad police service recently.
He said they were mugged and robbed by three wen wearing Basotho traditional blankets of bank cards, two cell phones and a wallet containing money.
Their guest was stabbed three times with a sharp object whereafter the robbers vanished.
“We went to the police station to open a case, but the police told us they will not open a case because they did not know the people who attacked us.
“I do not know who robbed us.
“Since when should victims know their attackers before a case can be opened?
“What the police are doing, is really disgusting,” said angry residents.
They added that several murders have taken place in eMbalenhle, yet nobody has been arrested yet.
“As for the CPF, they are worse.
“Instead of holding the police accountable and safeguarding the community, they are big buddies with police officers.
“The new administration of the CPF is failing our community.”
Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, disputed the allegation that police are useless. He said they are offering a good service to the people as guided by the Batho Pele principle.
“The allegations are serious and no one has laid formal charges for investigation. “The police might sometimes respond late to a scene because they are committed somewhere else.
“Those who are dissatisfied, must come to the station and report to the management.” Mr Joseph Mhlongo, CPF chairman, said the CPF is not structured to give the police instructions.
“We are here to create a partnership between residents and the police and regularly conduct community and stakeholders meetings.
“People must use these platforms to communicate their frustrations.
“To say we are useless, is not solving the matter.”
