Municipality admits there are problems
Council apologises for service delivery problems.
KINROSS – Residents of Kinross are experiencing water shortages every weekend and say the municipality is undermining them because no communication was sent out to warn them about possible water shortages.
They are also concerned about rubbish that has not been collected for two consecutive weeks, and again no communication was sent out.
“I took out the rubbish before I went to work and when I returned, I saw dogs had torn the rubbish bags,” said Ms Nelly Tshabalala.
The Ridge Times contacted the Govan Mbeki Municipality for comment about the water shortages and uncollected rubbish.
The municipality’s response does not give clarity as to whether residents will continue to experience water shortages over weekends or not.
They also do not stipulate whether the refuse removal issue was fixed or not.
The acting head of Marketing and Communication, Mr Bheki Kubheka, said the municipality “sincerely apologises” to the community of Kinross.
“There was an unforeseen electrical fault in the pump that supplies water to the residents and further to this, the standby pump did not have enough pressure head to pump water from the tower.
“Thus far, a new pump has been ordered and we awaiting for delivery, but there will be delay because the pump is being designed.
“It is also true that the rubbish has not been collected due to operational breakdowns that were unforeseen and this matter is receiving the undivided attention by the waste section.”
In the meantime, the municipality asked the community to refrain from throwing their litter in open spaces as this will add more and unnecessary work to waste personnel who will be dealing with backlogs.
