Residents live in fear

Residents are now living in fear after four bodies were found in the area in two weeks.

Residents are now living in fear after four bodies were found in the area in two weeks.

Young boys found the body of Mr Charles Mothibi behind the Devethos Tavern in Ext 25 at around 10am on Sunday, 29 November.

They at first thought he was asleep, but were surprised when they saw he was half naked and reported it to the adults.

Mr Mothibi was a maintenance operator at Bonjespruit Mine and had only a shirt and socks on.

His shoes were found 300 metres away.

* Rubbish recyclers found the body of a woman behind Kinross Primary School under rubbish on the same day.

She apparently lived in the same street as Mr Mothibi.

Capt Philemon Matlala from Kinross Police Station said the woman was strangled.

* A third body was found on Wednesday, 2 December.

The body of Ms Magdalene Nhlapo (42) was dumped near the road 500 metres from Kinross.

Ms Nhlapo was last seen alive on 25 November after work at about 8pm in Trichardt.

Her mother said every time that she worked late, she phoned her when she arrived home.

Her daughter however did not phone her on that day.

“I became worried and decided to phone her.

“When her phone was just ringing, I phoned her fiancée who told me that he had spoken to her on the phone just after she had signed off from work,” she said.

Ms Nhlapo’s mother felt unsettled and asked one of her grandsons to phone her daughter.

A man answered in Zulu and said: “What do you want? You are disturbing us.”

“Then the phone was switched off and I knew something was terribly wrong,” said the mother.

They drove around to look for Ms Nhlapo before going to the Trichardt Police Station to open a missing person’s case.

The family got a phone call from the police on 2 December to go to the station to identify the body of Ms Nhlapo.

“I don’t know what and why this happened to her,” said her mother.

Capt Matlala said the body was found by a man who was erecting a fence near the road.

* The body of a 65-year-old woman was found in her room on Kwaggalaagte Farm outside Kinross on Monday, 7 December.

Ms Irene Vuyisile Mngadi apparently had Stockvel visitors on 5 December and that was the last time that she was seen alive.

Her neighbours began to get worried when they did not see her on Sunday and Monday morning.

They forced the door to her house open and found her body.

Ms Mngadi suffered a wound to the head and the Stockvel money that she had received on Saturday, was missing.

The police arrested one person.

Kinross Police Station Commander said they are working hard to find the killers and asked anyone with information about any of these killings, to contact them at 017 687 1313.
