Nobody yet arrested for murder of woman whose body was discovered inside Sasol
Family struggles to find closure.
eMBALENHLE – The police and Sasol Security are investigating the murder of Ms Popi Nkosi whose body was found inside Sasol.
Her decomposed body was discovered next to Dam B and C inside Sasol.
This was 10 days after she was reported missing.
Ms Popi Nkosi died on the day her grandchildren intended to throw her a surprise birthday party.
Unfortunately the party was cancelled because their grandmother went missing days before.
Ms Nkosi left her home in eMbalenhle at about 11am on Friday, 27 November and said she was going to visit a friend in the neighbourhood.
The grieving family said they were advised by a neighbour who works for Sasol to contact the company’s security.
“We did and they confirmed that the body of a woman was found on the premises.
“We went to the government mortuary and identified her.
“This was the saddest day of my life seeing her in that state.
“She was a good person and did not deserve such a horrific and barbaric death,” said Mr Sizwe Nhlapho.
It is still a mystery of how the killers of Ms Nkosi gained access to Sasol.
Lt Bettinah Zondo, police spokesman, said the police are working closely with Sasol Security Services to investigate the murder and that no one has yet been arrested.
Mr Alex Anderson, head of Group Media Relations, said Sasol Security Services was alerted that the body of an unknown woman was discovered near one of the process water dams in the secondary area of the Secunda plant.
He said Sasol Security Services immediately called the South African Police Services (SAPS) to the scene where an investigation was in progress.
“Further information on the incident is not available at this stage, however every effort is being made to confirm the details as quickly as possible.
“Sasol is cooperating with all relevant authorities.
“All possible precautions and safety measures are in place to ensure the safety of all employees, service providers and community members.
“Further information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.”
Ms Nkosi left behind four daughters and her grandchildren.
She was buried on Saturday, 12 December in the Extension 14 Cemetary.
