eMBALENHLE – A failed house breaking led to the murder of a 56-year-old Vusimuzi Hlongwane in Ext 17 on Tuesday, 29 December.
According to the police a 22-year-old suspect entered one of the rooms on the deceased’s premises which is occupied by one of the tenants who was working.
Upon hearing a noise, the landlord (deceased) and his 57-year-old wife got into the tenant’s room which was already open.
It is alleged that the suspect was hiding behind a curtain in the room.
He immediately stabbed the landlord twice.
The deceased was stabbed in the neck and right arm.
The suspect also stabbed the deceased’s wife in the right arm.
The suspect managed to escape, but community members chased him.
He jumped over the gate of one of the premises next to the Ext 17 taxi rank.
However the community apprehended and assaulted him.
He was rescued by the police.
An ambulance that was on the scene was damaged.
The windscreen on the driver’s side was shattered.
The suspect was taken to hospital for medical attention after he sustained injuries when he was attacked by community members.
He is facing charges of murder, assault, house breaking and malicious damage to property after damaging windows in the house where he seek refuge.
The suspect will appear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court when he is declared fit by the medical practitioner.
