eMBALENHLE – Two children aged 9 and 10 survived a horrific shack fire last night.
They were sleeping when one of the brothers woke up and saw big flames coming into their room.
He jumped up and tried to wake his brother, but he was fast asleep.
“I took a hammer, broke a window and jumped through it.
“I then screamed for help.
“The uncle next door heard me and kicked at and broke the door.
“He rescued my sleeping brother,” he said.
Neighbours said if the fire department had responded earlier, some part of the shack could have been saved.
They said they had to go to the fire department to report the fire because the fire department did not answer their phone.
The family (a child-headed home) lost everything in the fire.
